San Diego Bengal is a small TICA/CFA & TIBCS registered in home Bengal breeder in Ramona, CA (25 minutes North of San Diego, CA) and have been breeding for over 14 years.
Ensuring the best health for my cats and yours:
Health is paramount to having "good" kittens. I am very proud to tell you that all breeding cats are HCM scanned every 12 - 18 months (with COVID cancelling the local SD clinics, I am driving to Irvine) and PRA & PK Deficiency tested. HCM/PRA-b & PK Def reports are posted on the particular Queen/King pages. What is HCM? Here is a great webinar video that explains it by very well known Kathryn M. Muers, DVM, PhD.
What is PRA-b - Progressive Retinal Atrophy? It is a recessive trait. Two cats that are carriers who breed will produce 25% kitten that will go blind in 1 - 3 years. Read about PRA-b here. It is easy to never produce a kitten affected with PRA-b as since Jan 2016 there has been a test at UC Davis. Not all breeders are testing though :( ALL my cats are tested. That means that they can NEVER produce a kitten affected. You can see the reports on the Queen & King pages.
You are what you eat is true for cats too. Being obligate carnivores, cats and kittens at SD Bengal are raised/fed a human grade raw diet (link to raw recipe). It is the closest to what they would eat in the wild and is in line with the pricing of the higher quality canned foods. If not continuing raw, please choose a high quality canned food ie Wilderness or similar. However, even Friskies canned is a million percent better that dry. I will send home raw for your transition to canned.
Breeders come from TICA registered Championship lines. All breeders are TICA registered. Kittens are raised indoors, treated like members of the family and handled daily from birth to ensure they develop a strong feline-human bond thus creating well socialized friendly kittens/cats which will transition into your home ready for adventure. Please read what people have said about my kittens on the Reviews page (click link)
Kittens are litter box trained and are feeding on their own for several weeks before they are ready to go to your home. Kittens are raised on a raw diet enriched with everything your kitten needs to have a long healthy life. Kittens will be spayed/neutered prior to leaving. Kittens are generally ready around 12 - 13 weeks old after being spayed/neutered at 10 - 11 weeks when they are over 3 lbs.
Although it is not necessary to feed your kitten the raw diet, it is the closest to the wild diet and gives the cat a gorgeous silky coat and overall excellent health! Cats are obligate carnivores. They do not produce the enzyme needed to digest carbohydrates. When you look at the most common kibble food, look at the ingredients. If it is not meat, it is a filler (aka carbs) that will pass straight through the cat's body with no nutritional benefits and a cat is getting zero water from kibble. Read about dry food from a vet. Cats are not natural drinkers. In the wild they get the moisture they require from the blood and moisture of the flesh they consume. They get their water through the food they eat. A cat will become dehydrated on any kind of kibble diet and likely develop kidney issues earlier than necessary. Most cats die of kidney/liver issues but on a wet diet can live a normal life of upwards of 20 years. A dry (Kibble) fed cat will often begin having kidney problems around 8 years old or so.
The goal is not to mass produce kittens, cats are bred only after time to recuperate. It is our goal to produce kittens that are both exceptionally beautiful and healthy with excellent, friendly & playful temperaments. See playful videos below
We are pleased to be a part of such a wonderful breed.
